Perth and Kinross nurses honoured for commitment to their community

Nine community nurses in Perth and Kinross have been honoured for their commitment to the community.

The Queen’s Nursing Institute Scotland (QNIS) presented long-service awards to the nurses who have worked 21 years or more in community.

The awards were presented to:

• Jackie Daly, Head of Nursing (Community), Psychiatry of Old Age

• Bob Dickie, senior charge nurse in the Older People’s Community Mental Health Team

• Debbie Howie, charge nurse in Psychiatry of Old Age

• Arlene Dawson, community learning disability charge nurse

• Alison Christie, community learning disability nurse

• Lesley MacGregor, community learning disability nurse

• Sheila McGarley, senior charge nurse in Learning Disability Intensive Support Service

• Pam Lamond, Perth City Day Facilities development officer/ senior charge nurse Move Ahead

• Liz Fyfe, senior charge nurse, community mental health team

The awards are given to nurses who have worked in any nursing role in the community including care home and community hospital nursing, community mental health nursing, midwifery, health visiting, school nursing, practice nursing, criminal justice nursing, occupational health nursing, district nursing, community children’s nursing and learning disabilities.

Following the presentation ceremony, a celebration event was held in the Council Chambers in Perth attended by the award recipients, colleagues, family and friends.

Clare Cable, Chief Executive and Nurse Director from the QNIS also attended the awards to congratulate the recipients. Clare said, “Nurses make a huge contribution to the health and wellbeing of individuals, families and communities.  The need for experienced community nursing has never been greater and we are delighted to join with Perth and Kinross Health and Social Care Partnership to celebrate the commitment of those receiving awards.”

Sandra Gourlay, Lead Nurse in Perth and Kinross Health and Social Care Partnership, said, “I am delighted that the nurses have been recognised for their commitment to community nursing and to the people they care for, and I am very pleased to celebrate the achievement with them.

“As the integration of health and social care progresses the contribution of nurses in the community is paramount in supporting people to live well at home.”
