FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Improvement work to start at Lochee Health Centre

A four month improvement project is set to start at Lochee Health Centre on Monday, 24 September.

Lochee Health Centre was transferred to NHS Tayside at the start of March 2016 and is managed by NHS Tayside with Primary Care Services delivered by Dundee Health and Social Care Partnership.

The project will see an investment of approximately £500,000 over the next few months resulting in refurbishments to the centre which will make significant improvements to the centre’s environment for patients and to service delivery.

Patients should be reassured that there will be no change to the way they make their GP appointments during this period and they will be able to continue to be seen by GPs at Lochee Health Centre as normal.

Improvements planned as part of the project will result in a brighter entrance and upgraded patient waiting room and a redesign of the original footprint of the building will enable more treatment and consulting rooms to be created by using the space more effectively.

The centre will be renamed Lochee Health and Community Care Centre on completion of the project and will provide shared accommodation across two floors allowing multidisciplinary teams and staff from health, social work and community based services to work closely together.

Further additional services are planned to be introduced which will benefit the local community including Cancer Wellbeing which is a service focused on supporting those diagnosed with cancer undertaking chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

Councillor Ken Lynn, Chair of the Dundee Integration Joint Board, said, “Lochee Health Centre is a vital part of local primary care services in Dundee and this improvement work will further enhance the range of services provided for the community of Lochee.

“This project will redevelop the original building to create space for additional clinics to allow Dundee Health and Social Care Partnership to deliver new services from the health centre, ensuring that treatments can be provided closer to where patients live.

“The newly refurbished Lochee Health Community Care Centre will benefit patients and members of the community by continuing to deliver high quality health and social care services right in the heart of Lochee.”

Lochee Health Centre practice manager Elaine Muir said, “This refurbishment is an exciting development and will enhance the environment for all patients. Everyone is really working hard to keep any disruption to services to a minimum. However, I understand that patients may have concerns and I would very much encourage anyone with any concerns to contact me at reception.

“Work is scheduled to continue until January next year and I would like to thank patients for their cooperation and understanding during this period of refurbishment.”
