Pupils make donations to hospital
With the desire to give back and spread some joy, the pupils of SS Peter and Pauls Primary School visited the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and the paediatrics department at Ninewells Hospital Wednesday, 28 November, loaded down with gifts.
Ava Jowett, Caitlin McKeith and Kyhran Gray visited the two wards at Ninewells Hospital with Laura McKenzie, their depute head teacher, to hand over the many gifts they had brought to the wards. The three pupils are members of the Rota Kids, Rotary’s organisation for children.
Kyhran said, “I was just in hospital and there wasn’t much to do, so we wanted to donate some things to the Children’s Hospital. We had cake sales and a quiz night to raise money, and we asked if they wanted the money or if they wanted toys. They wanted toys.”
Laura said, “Their hard work and motivation have allowed them to raise around £400. They decided to split the money between NCIU and Ward 29 at Ninewells. The money collected allowed them to purchase gifts for each of the wards.”
Alison Findlay, senior charge nurse at the NICU, said, “It was such a lovely experience meeting three very kind and thoughtful pupils and their head teacher. Their generous gift and donation of the baby miniboo comforters will help comfort and support our babies and their mums during separation in NICU.”
Sam Russell, senior charge nurse at paediatrics ward 29, said “The kids have done this because they saw we needed some new toys. Thank you so much for thinking of us. It was really nice of you. I’m sure the new toys will be most appreciated.”
