EMBARGOED UNTIL PHOTO OPPORTUNITY: 12:30PM, THURSDAY, 10 JANUARY AT PERTH MUSEUM AND ART GALLERY

Words for Wellbeing programme

People with mixed long-term conditions took part in a creative ‘Behind the Scenes’ project at Perth Museum and Art Gallery.

Tayside Healthcare Arts Trust (THAT) has been working with Perth Museum and Art Gallery Collections to provide an exciting opportunity for people living with a variety of long-term conditions (LTC) to participate in a creative Words for Wellbeing programme over the past two months.

The group accessed the museum’s archived photographs and artefacts, which stimulated memories, discussion, and creative narratives. The group was supported by novelist and educator Zoe Venditozzi.

The narrative work created by the group will be part of an exhibition at Perth Museum and Art Gallery called Collective Memories: City Hall and Perth Museum. The exhibition opened on Tuesday, 18 December.

The programme is part of THAT Mixed LTC Perth & Kinross Creative Engagement Project delivery for Perth City, in partnership with Culture Perth and Kinross.

One participant said, “I love learning new things. This programme has given me new curiosity. It’s been really interesting and I’ve loved how sociable it is.”

THAT project development officer Karine Neill said, “This programme has been a great opportunity for people to look at what is “behind the scenes”. Zoe led great conversations and there has been lots of laughter.

“Perth Museum and Art Gallery Collections officer Paul Adair gave us access to archived materials that stimulated participants writing.”

The Words for Wellbeing programme is supported by The Gannochy Trust, The Robertson Trust, Forteviot Trust and NHS Tayside.
