‘Making Recovery Real’ celebration

The Dundonald Centre in Dundee hosted an event to celebrate ‘Making Recovery Real’, a film where service users/patients tell their recovery story.

Representatives from community mental health teams, social work, voluntary and third sector organisations as well as patients, carers and friends of the centre attended the event.

Ruth Brown from Dundee Voluntary Action and peer volunteers from Making Recovery Real introduced the short film, highlighting stories from patients about their journey and recovery experiences. There was also a question and sharing experience session in which acting Dundee community mental health manager Lesley Burnett took part.

The new name for the centre’s day services – Recovery@Dundonald – was also announced and unveiled by vice chair of Dundee Health and Social Care Partnership Councillor Ken Lynn. Recovery@Dundonald was selected by patients in a poll organised by the newly elected patient committee following a redesign of the service.

Interim day service manager Gill McDonald said, “The event went really well with more than 50 people attending to celebrate the short film and the renaming of the day services.

“Recovery@Dundonald is now working more closely with local partners to support patients on their recovery and empower people with lived experience of mental illness to flourish.”
