NHS Tayside supports World Blood Donor Day

Staff across NHS Tayside supported World Blood Donor Day today (Friday) by raising awareness of the importance of giving blood.

Every year, on 14 June, countries around the world celebrate World Blood Donor Day. Organised by the World Health Organisation, the day celebrates the contribution that blood donors across the globe make in saving lives and improving health, every single day.

The theme of this year's World Blood Donor Day is ‘Safe blood for all’. The Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service would like to ask donors to be blood group aware, by finding out their blood type, and watching blood stock levels to find out the best time to give blood.

Staff from across NHS Tayside joined in by donning World Blood Donor Day t-shirts with the campaign slogan #ThankYou which is aimed at all blood donors.

NHS Tayside Chief Executive Grant Archibald also gave his support by giving blood at Ninewells today.

Grant said, “It’s quick and easy to donate and every time you give blood, you can save or improve the lives of up to three people. If you are considering becoming a blood donor or haven’t donated for a while please get in touch with your local donor centre and make an appointment.”
