New recreation programme for Dundee Learning Disability Service

The Dundee Learning Disability Service held an event to launch its new recreation programme.

Staff from the service were joined by service users and community partners at the event at Ardler Community Centre to hear about the new recreation service. There was also a celebratory cake cutting and a raffle of signed footballs.

Some of the activities available include swimming, bocia, gymnastics, gym sessions and trampolining. Dundee FC Community Trust and Dundee United Community Trust will also be running sessions for service users including walking football, walking netball and their successful Football Fans in Training fitness programmes.

Other partners include Advocating Together, which offers cinema groups and restaurant trips, Sense Scotland and Turning Point.

Learning disability and mental health physiotherapy team lead Gill McDonald said, “The day was a real celebration of what the recreation team provides with our partners.

“Working in partnership with Dundee and Dundee United community trusts and Advocating Together allows service users to experience a wide range of physical activity and engage in social activities across the city. It also helps raise awareness that our city has a diverse population with a wide range of health and social care needs.”
