Handmade dollhouse donated to children’s hospital
A beautiful handmade dollhouse and furniture was donated to the Tayside Children’s Hospital.
Occupational therapy instructor Douglas Cooper, who works at the Craigmill Skill Centre based at Strathmartine Hospital, donated a handmade dollhouse and furniture that was made by a former patient. The items are made from recycled wooden pallets.
The Craigmill Skill Centre supports adults with learning disabilities to develop social and vocational skills through occupational therapy. Participants work with qualified occupational therapy instructors who have a skilled background. This provides vocational skill training and conservation activities.
As well as an industrial workshop, there is a concrete workshop and a garden project where they grow vegetables, plants and create spring/summer flower displays. Their products can be requested, by NHS staff, and any money made is put back into the centre to continue supporting the programme. Requests and purchases are made by appointment only.
Accepting the donation play specialist Yvonne West said, “We are very grateful for this amazing and beautiful donation. It must have taken a long time to make everything. The children are going to have a lot of fun playing with this.”
