New animated ‘Green Zone’ guide for surgery patients

A new animated guide has been created to help patients and their families understand the journey through the surgical ‘Green Zone’.

More people are now coming to hospital as NHS Tayside’s remobilisation plans progress to increase the number and types of procedures that were paused due to COVID-19. Green Zones are a critical element of the plans, which aim to ensure services are safe for staff and patients.

The Green Zones, which ensure patients coming to hospital for planned urgent surgery are kept separate from the areas caring for COVID-19 patients, have been in operation since May. Clinical teams and support staff worked together to create the protected areas for more vulnerable patients who still need to come to hospital for urgent surgery for serious conditions, such as cancer.

Over 200 patients have now been treated in the zones in Ninewells Hospital and Perth Royal Infirmary.

The animated guide outlines the process patients coming into the Green Zone must follow, including self-isolating at home for 14 days prior to their procedure and being tested for COVID-19.
