Damien Hirst print donated to NHS Tayside as thank you to staff
Tayside Healthcare Arts Trust (THAT) is delighted to have been selected to receive a limited edition ‘Butterfly Rainbow’ print created by internationally-renowned artist Damien Hirst.
Damien Hirst created ‘Butterfly Rainbow’ in May this year to show his support for the NHS during the COVID-19 pandemic. The work is made up of bands of coloured butterfly wings, one of the artist’s best known motifs.
A limited edition run of prints was produced and all profit from the sales was donated to NHS Charities Together, the organisation that represents and supports official NHS charities across the UK. The sale raised a massive £1,508,172. A small number of these prints were also kept to be donated to NHS Boards and Trusts across the UK.
Damien Hirst said, “I wanted to do something to support the people who are risking their lives to help those in need during this time of crisis. The Rainbow is a sign of hope and I’m so pleased to have released these prints to help fund the brilliant work being done by NHS staff across the country.”
THAT development officer Karine Neill said, “We are excited to receive the Damien Hirst artwork and have it sited in NHS Tayside. The print will be on display in the Tayside Children’s Hospital.”
