Mobile endoscopy unit will reduce waiting times

As part of NHS Tayside’s remobilisation plans to safely increase services and reduce waiting times, a mobile endoscopy unit is being used to deliver healthcare services.

The unit is based at Ninewells Hospital to provide NHS Tayside with an additional facility. This is now the seventh endoscopy equipped room in Tayside and will help to reduce waiting times.

It is now open and will be able to take up to 110 patients per week.

Dr John Todd, Consultant Gastroenterologist, said, “COVID-19 has had a large impact on endoscopy services. Extra infection control measures mean that we are working at just under 40% of our normal capacity.

“This additional unit will help to bring endoscopy activity back to near normal levels and we will continue to prioritise those with the most serious symptoms.”

The mobile endoscopy unit has been funded by the Scottish Government for a 30-week period.
