Loving donation to Roxburghe House in memory of Helen Chalmers

The family and friends of Helen Chalmers kindly donated money to purchase special gifts for staff and patients at Roxburghe House in her memory.

Enough money was raised to buy pamper items for staff and 21 tablet cushions for patients. They also had 18 heart-shaped cuddle cushions made out of Helen’s clothing to bring some comfort to patients.

Helen’s children Caroline Doyle, Louise Woodward and Keith Chalmers visited Roxburghe House to donate the items. Caroline said, “Our mum was diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer last year. It was a shock to everyone and she was ill for a very short time before she passed away at Roxburghe House.

“The staff at Roxburghe House are amazing. They always had a kind word to say and were very caring and loving towards our mum. They made arrangements for us to say our goodbyes, something we are extremely grateful for.”

Louise said, “We wanted to do something to say thank you to everyone for looking after our mum. We appreciate everything they do. Self care is very important, so we thought a selection of pamper items for the staff would be ideal.

“Patients are using tablets and phones more than usual to communicate with their families. Holding these can be difficult, so we purchased the cushions for the devices to be rested on. The cushions help relieve stress on the user’s neck and wrists caused by holding the device.”

Keith, along with his two step brothers Graeme and Billy and some friends will be taking on the three peak challenge in June to raise money for Cancer Research UK in memory of Helen and Helen’s partner Wullie, who sadly passed away in January.

Accepting the donation, Macmillian senior charge nurse Marnie Ferguson said, “A huge thank you for this wonderful donation. Your donation will benefit our patients greatly and the staff will enjoy a bit of pampering!”
