Don’t worry – you can still grab a jab

NHS Tayside is reassuring people who have missed their vaccination appointment due to self-isolation that they will still have a chance to get vaccinated in the coming weeks.

It is vital that people get both vaccinations to ensure maximum protection against the virus, including new variants, even if you have had COVID-19 before.

Anyone who has missed their vaccination appointment due to self-isolation can attend any drop-in clinic in mainland Scotland, regardless of where they are registered, or can rebook their appointment using the NHS Inform appointment checker. If you don’t have online access, you can call the National Helpline on 0800 030 8013.

If you have tested positive for coronavirus you must wait 28 days from testing positive to attend for vaccination.

If you are a close contact of a positive case, and have completed the 10 day self-isolation period and not tested positive for coronavirus, you can attend for your vaccination on the 11^th day.

Director of Public Health Dr Emma Fletcher said, “Everyone is aware of the current situation in Tayside, and particularly in Dundee, in terms of high numbers of cases in the community. We know that many people currently have or have recently had COVID-19, or may be self-isolating as a close contact, and therefore can’t get vaccinated right now.

“Please don’t worry, we will continue running our drop-in clinics and offering appointments over the coming weeks to ensure that you can get your vaccine as soon as possible after your period of self-isolation.

“Unfortunately there are young people right now with COVID in Ninewells – not only in our general wards, but also in our intensive care and high dependency unit. So we have a simple plea to everyone, but particularly to those in the younger age groups: please go and get your vaccination as soon as you can.

“Drop-in vaccination clinics are running at venues right across Tayside to make it as easy as possible for people to get vaccinated. No appointment is necessary and anyone over 18 can now drop-in.

“So far, uptake of vaccinations in Tayside has been very good. We have delivered over 522,000 vaccines in Tayside with more than 296,000 people, 85% of the adult population, having one dose and around 226,000 people, 64%, having had both doses but we need that uptake to be higher to stop the spread of the virus.

“We know that getting both doses of the vaccine offers maximum protection against the virus so if you have not yet had your first jab, or you are longer than eight weeks from your first jab and are due your second jab, come along to your nearest clinic and we will get you vaccinated.”
