Green-fingered staff from Dundee and Angus businesses have dug deep to help get some of NHS Tayside’s hospital gardens back in shape.

During lockdown, NHS Tayside’s volunteer gardeners weren’t able to carry out their usual roles and the garden areas at Royal Victoria Hospital’s Roxburghe House and the Macmillan Day Care Centre at Stracathro Hospital became overgrown.

Workers from BT in Dundee and Baker Hughes in Montrose used their staff volunteer days to help get the gardens tidied up and ready for patients, staff and visitors to enjoy once services resume.

Volunteer service manager at Roxburghe House, Debbie Garmany said, “These gardens are a place where patients and visitors can sit and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

“The team from BT have done a tremendous job tidying and weeding the gardens in and around Roxburghe House, alongside our volunteer gardener who has now resumed his volunteering role after COVID restrictions were eased.  We can't thank the team enough and look forward to them returning.”

Charge nurse at the Macmillan Day Care Centre, Rachel Leonard said, “We are extremely thankful to the team from Baker Hughes for the amazing job they have done in the garden. It's looking beautiful and our patients will benefit from being able to sit outside in the nicer weather and also admire the garden from inside.”
