New location for vaccination centre in Dundee

NHS Tayside’s vaccination team is setting up the new community vaccination centre in Dundee City Centre.

The new centre will open in the former Zara store on the corner of High Street and Commercial Street on Monday, 11 October, delivering COVID boosters and flu jabs over the coming months.

    • The first groups to receive their vaccinations in the new centre will be people aged over 70 and those classed as clinically extremely vulnerable who will be invited for COVID boosters. They will receive their appointments through the post and should look out for the blue envelope.

    • This will be followed by COVID boosters and flu jabs for people aged 50-69, people aged 16-49 with a long-term health condition such as heart, lung or kidney diseases, unpaid carers, and those living with someone who is immunosuppressed. These groups will be able to book their appointments online in the coming weeks.

    • Drop-in sessions will also be available for anyone who has not had their first or second dose of the COVID vaccine. More information about the timings of drop-ins at the new venue will be posted on our website and social media channels.

The Caird Hall was the main vaccination centre in Dundee delivering 135,000 jabs. The vaccination team then temporarily moved to Dundee House to allow the set up of the new centre on High Street. The last day of vaccinations at Dundee House will be Sunday, 10 October.

Normal parking arrangements have now resumed in Crichton Street so to avoid congestion around the city centre, anyone attending the new vaccination centre by car is being asked to use Gellatly Street and Greenmarket car parks. Blue Badge parking and a drop-off area are both available on Castle Street.

NHS Tayside Associate Director for Public Health Dr Daniel Chandler said, “I’m delighted that we are gearing up to move into our new community vaccination centre, which will be a local hub for Dundee residents to receive COVID boosters and flu vaccines over the next few months.

“It will allow our teams to deliver thousands of vaccinations in a central and accessible location and has been the result of a huge amount of work behind the scenes by many people to identify a suitable building and ensure that it will be up and running in time for the next stage of the programme.

“We’ve had a great response to the vaccination programme so far in Tayside with particularly high uptake amongst the most vulnerable groups so I would strongly encourage everyone to take up the offer of the COVID booster, along with the flu jab, when you are invited.

“Our thanks again go to everyone involved in the setting up and running of the Caird Hall and Dundee House venues and we look forward to welcoming the first patients to the new venue next week.”
