A silver birch tree has been planted in the grounds of Perth Royal Infirmary in support of the Queen’s Green Tree Canopy, part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

The commemorative tree planting ceremony was held at Perth Royal Infirmary with Chair of NHS Tayside, Lorna Birse-Stewart and Alex Cairncross, Deputy Lieutenant for Perth and Kinross

As part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, people across the country are being invited to take part in the ‘Queen’s Green Canopy’ and plant a tree to mark Her Majesty’s 70 years of service and enhance the environment.

Further commemorative trees will be planted at other NHS Tayside sites in Angus, Dundee and Perth and Kinross as part of this initiative when the official tree planting season recommences in October.

Lorna Birse Stewart said, “I am absolutely delighted that NHS Tayside is marking the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee by supporting the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative. I would like to thank the Deputy Lieutenant for helping us plant the silver birch tree at PRI.

“Across the nation, people have been planting a tree to celebrate the Queen’s 70 year reign and it is fitting that NHS Tayside is also participating. These trees will enhance the environment and provide a lasting legacy for staff, patients and visitors to enjoy in the future.”

Alex Cairncross said, “I am delighted that NHS Tayside has participated in the Queen’s Green Canopy by planting this tree at Perth Royal Infirmary. It is a fantastic contribution to the Platinum Jubilee tree planting initiative. I look forward to watching the tree flourish in years to come.”

The tree has been added to The Queen's Green Canopy map which can be viewed online at www.queensgreencanopy.org
