‘Singing for wellbeing’ screening in Perth and Kinross

Members of Vocal Chord, a singing group for people with long-term health conditions, came together for a screening of their work this week at Perth Concert Hall.

Tayside Healthcare Arts Trust’s (THAT) Vocal Chord group was filmed at the final session of their spring 2022 programme and members were invited to the special screening event in the Norie-Miller Studio to celebrate their talents.

Singing coach Debra Salem and THAT volunteer Annette McBride worked with participants throughout the programme, focusing on six specific songs in their repertoire to develop vocal techniques and harmonies.

Debra said, “I really enjoyed working with the Vocal Chord group again and exploring gentle harmonies and different song styles of music together. Everyone worked very hard and it was a fantastic opportunity to get back to some normality by singing together face to face and having the experience of being on stage in Perth Concert Hall.”

THAT development officer Karine Neill said, “Vocal Chord is all about enjoyment and wellbeing through singing and coming together as a group. Although we were able to meet online over the past two years, our partnership with Horsecross Perth saw us able to bring people together face to face again and we loved being back singing together as a group.

“The group relies on experienced and passionate singing coaches to deliver these programmes and Debra, who has worked with us over many years, is fantastic. “

Another Vocal Chord summer/autumn programme will take place this year in the Norie-Miller Studio, Perth Concert Hall. If you would like more information or would like to register your interest please contact Karine Neill on karine.neill@nhs.scot or phone 01382 835509 Monday to Thursday.

THAT promotes the therapeutic value of arts-based programmes to enhance quality of life, promote

social inclusion and empower an individual to make an important contribution to their health and wellbeing.

The programme is delivered in association with Horsecross Arts Perth and supported by The Gannochy Trust, Big Lottery Community Fund, NHS Tayside, Community Innovations and THAT.
