Health Hub information point launched at Murray Royal Hospital
A new Health Hub is providing a range of health promoting resources for patients, visitors and staff at Murray Royal Hospital in Perth.
The Health Hub is a free health information point where people can access resources to support physical activity, stopping smoking and healthy eating, along with information on living with a long term condition such as stroke, dementia or arthritis.
MoveAhead, which is a mental health and wellbeing service funded by Perth & Kinross Health & Social Care Partnership, has provided packs offering a range of leisure, educational and social opportunities. A NHS Tayside Community Connector volunteer will also be available at the Hub every Wednesday morning to help signpost people to local and national sources of support.
The Health Hub was set up by Health Shops and Advice Centre manager Jodi Moodie and senior charge nurse of MoveAhead Pam Lamond.
Pam said, “The Health Hub aims to deliver information and advice regarding health promotion and disease management. This is a key ambition of the Perth & Kinross Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy which has identified the need to create more opportunities for people to improve their physical health and raise awareness of the value that good physical health has for improving mental health.”
The launch of the Hub coincides with Mental Health Awareness Week, which this year has the theme of ‘loneliness’. People who experience loneliness are more at risk of mental health problems such as anxiety and depression but it can also adversely impact on people’s participation in normal daily activities that help maintain physical health and wellbeing.
