Reading for wellbeing in Perth

A new reading group has been launched in Perth as part of a project which aims to improve local residents’ wellbeing.

‘On the Same Page’ is run by MoveAhead, a mental health and wellbeing service funded by Perth & Kinross Health & Social Care Partnership. It takes place on the last Friday of each month at AK Bell Library between 10.30am and noon and everyone over the age of 16 is welcome.

The group is free to attend and books and materials will be provided. For more information or to book a place please contact MoveAhead on 01738 413070 or tay.moveaheadservice@nhs.scot

Senior charge nurse of MoveAhead, Pam Lamond said, “Books are magic. Reading a book takes you out of your own life and can transport you to other times, places and worlds, and into other lives. Starting a new book is a treat, something to look forward to and finishing a book gives you a deep sense of satisfaction.

“Reading for as little as six minutes a day has been proven to improve sleep, reduce stress, sharpen mental abilities and improve mental health wellbeing. Best of all, it’s enjoyable.”

Rhona Corbett, Head of Culture and Heritage at Culture Perth & Kinross, added, “Reading is incredibly important in our daily lives and we are delighted that MoveAhead is launching this reading group at Culture Perth & Kinross Libraries. We can’t wait to welcome the group to the AK Bell.”
