Green fingered patients create ‘Hope Garden’ at Carseview Centre

An outdoor space at Carseview Centre has been transformed into a beautiful garden area thanks to the hard work of patients and staff.

The original idea and name for the Carseview Hope Garden came from staff in the Crisis Team, who wanted to make better use of the space of the back of the centre which is used regularly by patients and visitors.

The Occupational Therapy (OT) team then decided to take forward the project as a therapeutic activity for patients and worked with them to design and create the garden.

OT support worker Kirsty McKay arranged for each ward to visit Dundee Botanic Gardens, who also generously donated plants for the Hope Garden. Ninewells Community Garden also helped with lots of useful hints and tips for creating and maintaining the garden.

Kirsty said, “Therapeutic gardening has so many benefits which we have now seen really take effect. Working with our patients we created a wonderful space that was all their own design choices and hard work. We hope to continue further developing it and creating more therapeutic gardening opportunities here at Carseview.

“We are also very grateful for the support we received from the Botanic Gardens and Ninewells Community Garden.”
