Men Only Tayside service marks 10 years

To mark 10 years of Men Only Tayside (MOT), the sexual health service is launching a refreshed website and app.

Men Only Tayside is a community HIV and sexual health support service co-produced by the community, Terrence Higgins Trust Scotland and NHS Tayside, aiming to ensure that  all men who have sex with men (MSM) living in Tayside are able to easily access individualised sexual healthcare and HIV prevention interventions and support services.

Dr Ciara Cunningham, Consultant in Genitourinary medicine said, “We have been thrilled with how the MOT service has engaged and improved the uptake of sexual healthcare in the local community. Access has significantly expanded over the past 10 years, including the introduction of online testing and virtual clinics, whilst continuing to provide the much valued face-to-face clinics. We have excellent feedback from users with 100% of attendees happy to recommend the service to a friend.”

Over the past 10 years, the MOT service has grown to establish itself as a fundamental part of both the health service and the community, providing valuable testing, information and support across Tayside. MOT has supported many successful initiatives, including:

• supporting the distribution and delivery of HIV PrEP (Pre Exposure Prophylaxis) 

• community and venue based HIV and sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing

• supporting the NHS Tayside Hepatitis B and HPV vaccination programmes   

• provided talks and community testing at local colleges and universities  

• normalised sexual health conversations and care for men 

The MOT website and app have been redesigned with the help of service users to make sure the information is as clear and accessible as possible. The site and app allows users to confidentially order free condoms, assess risk, get advice on how to stay safe and get the most up-to-date information about sexual health services and testing.
