Therapeutic activity to benefit patients in South Perthshire
Patients in South Perthshire are getting the opportunity to take part in a range of therapeutic activities to benefit their care.
A new Therapeutic Activity Worker role has been established to provide a programme of activities for patients in St Margaret’s Community Hospital and Crieff Community Hospital.
Therapeutic Activity Worker Susan Greig is offering activities in group or one-to-one sessions with patients, who can also invite relatives and friends to join activity sessions.
Activities offered can include knitting, crochet, strength and balance exercise, crafting, card making, board games, painting, drawing, gardening, music and art therapy and many more.
Crieff-based community reuse charity Remake Scotland recently donated a starter pack box of crafting materials to support the new therapeutic activity programme.
Therapeutic Activity Worker Susan Greig said, “My role is to engage with patients and offer meaningful activities of their choice to benefit them during their time in hospital.
“We hope to provide a real range of activities so there will be something that everyone can enjoy. This is a new role but the feedback has already been very positive from patients and their families.
“We are very grateful to Remake Scotland for their kind donation of crafting materials to support the activity programme.”
Perth and Kinross Health and Social Care Partnership South Perthshire & Kinross Locality Manager, Tia Dixon said, “The South Locality Team recognised the need for this valuable role and it is wonderful to have Susan in post and already making a big impact.
“The role makes an important contribution to providing person centred care within St Margaret’s and Crieff Community Hospitals by supporting and encouraging activities that give structure, enjoyment and enable wellbeing and recovery.”
