CBIR benefits from Christmas calendar competition
The Centre for Brain Injury Rehabilitation (CBIR) at Ward 5, Royal Victoria Hospital in Dundee was presented with a cheque for £200 following success in a Christmas calendar competition.
Digby Brown Solicitors held an art competition to fill the pages of their Christmas calendar and Jayne Kelly and Shona Burnett, who had both been patients at CBIR/Ward 5, had their artwork chosen to be in the 2023 calendar.
The pair were invited by Digby Brown to a prize-giving ceremony in Glasgow along with CBIR artist, Christine Goodman. Jayne and Shona received a prize of £20 worth of Marks & Spencer vouchers and the CBIR received a donation of £200 towards group funds.
Shona said of her time in the hospital, “I looked forward to the art group when I was in hospital as it gave me something different to focus on. At first I wasn’t sure as I didn’t feel I had any drawing skills and no sooner was I working away on a painting of a butterfly from a photograph I really liked.”
Jayne commented, “I didn’t think I was any good at drawing or using watercolours and then found whilst in hospital I really enjoyed learning to paint and the social time we had together making art.”
Flora Bannerman from Digby Brown in Glasgow said, “It was a pleasure to meet both Jayne and Shona to congratulate them in person and to give them feedback, which the judges of the competition had passed on about their artworks submitted to the competition.
“I would also like to thank Christine Goodman from the CBIR/Ward 5 for encouraging so many patients to take part in the competition and helping us produce a calendar to be proud of, which will be circulated to hospitals, clinics and brain injury services across the country.”
