‘Perth Vocal Chord’ Does... The Twa Tams Big Sing Thing
The mixed long-term conditions group, Perth Vocal Chord, held a free concert to share their singing talents in the Joan Knight studio at Perth Theatre and Concert Hall.
Tayside Healthcare Arts Trust’s (THAT) Vocal Chord singing group performed with accompaniment from musicians from The Twa Tams Big Sing Thing five piece band at the final session of their autumn programme.
Singing coach Debra Salem worked with participants during the eight-session programme to explore singing a range of songs that could be shared with others using gentle harmonies and a variety of warm up techniques. Perth Theatre and Concert Hall learning and engagement creative co-ordinator Jasmine Munns and THAT volunteer Annette McBride also provided support during the programme.
Debra said, “I have really enjoyed working with the Vocal Chord group. We focused our work on the harmonies of popular classic songs. The group selected their favourite songs and worked very hard and they sound fantastic! Bringing The Twa Tams Big Sing Thing to Perth Theatre with a four-piece band and Vocal Chord has been a joy.”
THAT development officer, Karine Neill said, “THAT Vocal Chord seeks to improve health and wellbeing through singing and coming together as a group. The group responded very positively to having the leadership of Debra and the support from the volunteers. Through supporting the programme, I have seen their confidence grow and what a great opportunity it is to perform with the musicians from The Twa Tams Big Sing Thing Band.”
Perth Vocal Chord programme will resume in January 2024. If you would like more information or would like to register to be part of this singing for mixed long term conditions wellbeing group, please contact Karine Neill on 01382 835509 or email Karine.neill@nhs.scot
THAT promotes the therapeutic value of arts-based programmes to enhance quality of life, promote
social inclusion and empower an individual to make an important contribution to their health and wellbeing.
The programme is delivered in partnership with Perth Theatre and Concert Hall and supported by NHS Tayside, The Gannochy Trust, The Big Lottery Community Fund, and THAT.
