NHS Tayside appoints new Chief Executive
NHS Tayside has appointed Nicky Connor as its new Chief Executive.
Nicky is currently Chief Officer and Director of Health and Social Care in Fife and has more than 25 years’ experience of professional and leadership roles both locally, and at regional and national level.
Her move to NHS Tayside brings her NHS career back to where it started as she trained as a nurse at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee and started her lifelong commitment to health and care on the medical wards in the hospital. She has worked in roles across the acute sector in cardiology, then in community nursing and health visiting before leading advanced programmes of work in the community addressing long-term conditions.
Her drive to inspire and lead teams to deliver truly person-centred initiatives to communities led her to senior nursing leadership roles before she took up the position of Chief Officer and Director of Health and Social Care in Fife more than five years ago.
As a Tayside resident, Nicky is firmly committed to leading NHS Tayside’s future development as part of the whole system of health and care, alongside its partner organisations.
Announcing the appointment, Chair of Tayside NHS Board Lorna Birse-Stewart said, “Following a rigorous recruitment process, I am delighted to welcome Nicky into her new role. She has been instrumental in the integration of health and care in Fife and her track record of leading teams to deliver truly patient-focused improvements and innovations in practice will be a hugely positive asset to NHS Tayside. On behalf of the Board we are all looking forward to working with Nicky through this next phase of reform and recovery of health and care services.”
Of her new role, Nicky said, “I am honoured to be joining NHS Tayside as its new Chief Executive and am looking forward to meeting colleagues and teams when I take up post at the end of July.
“Tayside is home to me and my family and it will be a privilege for me to serve our communities by providing the leadership which will ensure we work well with all our partners and deliver services that will improve the health and care outcomes for our population.
“It is a challenging time for all health and care systems across the country but Tayside teams are performing well and have earned a reputation for delivering excellent care and treatment. I am looking forward to meeting these ambitious teams to continue to build a really bright future for Tayside.”
• Nicky Connor will take up post at the end of July 2024 when NHS Tayside Interim Chief Executive Professor Caroline Hiscox moves to the Chief Executive position at NHS Lothian, an appointment made earlier this year.
