Carseview unit recognised for achieving standards of excellence
Staff in the Intensive Psychiatric Care Unit (IPCU) at Carseview Centre are celebrating after achieving accreditation membership of The Royal College of Psychiatrists (RCP).
NHS Tayside’s IPCU is the only unit in Scotland that is accredited by the RCP and, across the UK, only around 13% of those that enter the scheme will achieve accreditation.
IPCU senior charge nurse Michelle Pocula said, “Accreditation membership with the RCP is a difficult thing to achieve due to the standards of excellence that require to be met. Our team in the IPCU has met those standards and can take real pride in the work we do day in, day out.”
The RCP’s Quality Network for Psychiatric Intensive Care Units (QNPICU) supports units through a process of self and peer review in order to meet the required standards for accreditation. Having accreditation membership assures staff, service users, carers, commissioners and regulators of the quality of the service being provided.
Louise Ewing, General Manager for Inpatient Mental Health, said, “We are delighted to celebrate the IPCU’s achievement in meeting the required standards for accreditation from the RCP.
“Not only have they met the standards but they are the only IPCU in Scotland to hold this accreditation, which will remain in place for a three-year period.
“Achieving the accreditation was a real multi-disciplinary team effort, requiring a lot of hard work, commitment, planning and preparation. This is great news for patients, carers and staff and for NHS Tayside.”
