NHS Tayside oncology team recognised for dedication and innovation at national awards
NHS Tayside’s oncology team has been celebrated for its exceptional commitment to patient care and innovation, winning the prestigious Advancements in Oncology Award at the 2024 Scottish Healthcare Awards.
The ceremony, held at the Crowne Plaza in Glasgow this November, recognised outstanding achievements in improving cancer care across Scotland.
Tayside Cancer Centre has a long and prestigious history but has faced challenges in recent years. Determined to transform the service, the team has been working hard to rebuild and enhance the department, focusing on delivering safe, person-centred and world class cancer care.
Key to this turnaround was strong leadership and a unified approach to recruiting talent internally, through training and development opportunities, as well as from within Scotland and beyond. Over the past four years, the Tayside Cancer Centre has attracted skilled professionals from across the globe, creating a strong and sustainable oncology service.
Patients in Tayside now benefit from a department that offers access to advanced radiotherapy techniques, innovative therapies and a growing number of clinical trials.
Chief Officer for Acute Services Lynn Smith said, “This award is a testament to the oncology team’s determination and the positive impact of their work for the people of Tayside.
“I’m delighted to see the Tayside Cancer Centre team receive recognition on a national scale for their dedication, innovation and incredible teamwork.
“The service continues to go from strength to strength. Everyone in Tayside Cancer Centre is committed to developing the service and continuing to deliver excellent cancer care locally.”
