Local creative writing group share work at V&A Dundee
Tayonline, a pan Tayside mixed long-term conditions group, showcased their recent work during a celebration at the V&A Dundee’s Robertson Studio.
Tayside Healthcare Arts Trust’s (THAT) Tayonline Creative Writing Group shared their writing in the Robertson Studio at the V&A in Dundee as the final session of their eight-week
autumn programme. The programme, which is delivered online, provides people living with long-term conditions across Tayside easy access to a creative writing opportunity.
Author Sandra Ireland worked with participants to explore various themes writing tasks, providing inspiration through visual and written prompts. Sandra also encouraged the group to explore different writing styles.
They also took inspiration from artist Jeni Reid, who shared the background to her recent exhibition, ’Props from an Imagined Life‘. They also looked at the V&A Design Collection as a source for creative ideas.
Sandra Ireland said, “I am pleased by the group’s variety of written work and by the quality of their work. They developed fiction writing skills during this programme and it has been a delight to see them grow in confidence and ability each week.”
THAT development officer Karine Neill said, “Tayonline makes a positive impact on participants confidence, and we hope to record more participants reading a piece of their work. The programme through this regular contact fosters a great sense of community between participants, develops confidence which has also helps with reducing social isolation.”
