NHS Tayside staff thank volunteers during Volunteers’ Week
NHS Tayside celebrated the contribution of its many volunteers with a series of activities during Volunteers’ Week (2-8 June).
Special events were held at Menzieshill Parish Church, Bruce House and Perth Royal Infirmary with certificates given to recognise the achievements of volunteers with 5, 10, 15 and 20 years service. Special recognition was given to three volunteers who have achieved 25, 30 and 35 years.
A number of volunteers and staff shared their stories throughout the week on NHS Tayside’s social media channels, sharing some of their proudest volunteering moments.
The volunteering services team at Ninewells had a stand on the main concourse throughout the week and was pleased to welcome volunteers from third sector partner organisations that support NHS Tayside, including Pets as Therapy, Ninewells Community Garden, Radio Lollipop and Therapet. NHS Tayside's Public Partners Network also took part with their own information stall.
There are around 500 active volunteers across NHS Tayside carrying out many roles including welcome guides, patient transport, health walk leaders, gardeners, flower arrangers, listening volunteers and breastfeeding buddies.
Volunteer services manager Val Ewan said, "Our volunteers are appreciated all year round, but during Volunteers' Week we want to take an extra opportunity to say thank you to them for gifting their time to NHS Tayside. People volunteer with us for lots of different reasons and each person who volunteers makes a difference to our services.”
