NHS Tayside welcomes its biggest intake of new doctors
NHS Tayside has welcomed 122 new doctors to the Health Board in its biggest ever intake of new recruits.
Executive Medical Director Dr James Cotton welcomed the new foundation year 1 (FY1) doctors at an event in Ninewells Hospital this week. The doctors will be working across a wide range of specialities across NHS Tayside as they undertake a two-year foundation programme.
The first-year doctors have taken part in an induction programme, organised by the Directorate of Medical Education, which includes a six-day programme of lectures and workshops on a range of topics to support them in their new role, as well as three days shadowing the medical team in the clinical environment where they are about to start work.
Dr Cotton said, “I am delighted to welcome our new FY1 doctors as they join our clinical teams in NHS Tayside. We are thrilled to have recruited 122 doctors this year, which is the biggest intake we have ever had in NHS Tayside.
“I want to personally thank them for choosing to be part of Team Tayside and wish them the very best in their future careers. They have worked very hard to get here and I have no doubt that they will play a valuable role across our services supporting patients and their families.”
Dr Mina Abdel Bari, one of the new FY1 doctors who graduated from the University of Dundee, said she was looking forward to her next steps as a junior doctor.
She said, “I am really happy to be at Ninewells as I studied in Dundee and everyone has been very supportive and given me a great welcome. I wanted to be a doctor to help people and I am very excited to start my new role. I am looking forward to putting what I have learnt into practice. It’s been hard work to get to this point but it’s all been worth it.”
