Nine nurses from across Tayside with a combined length of service of 200 years have been honoured with Queen’s Nursing Institute Scotland (QNIS) long service awards for their commitment to the community.

The QNIS long service award is given to nurses with 21 years of service in community nursing in recognition of their dedication and service. The award is open to nurses from all specialities including district nurses, community nurses, health visitors and those working across other disciplines such as schools, general practice or mental health and nurses working in specialist services.

The awards were presented to:

    • Lynne Summers, team leader for health visiting

    • Joanne Currie, family nurse supervisor

    • Heather Petrie, family nurse

    • Sinead McLaughlin, family nurse supervisor

    • Jane Christie, team leader for health visiting

    • Virette Swift, team leader for health visiting

    • Gail Clarke, health visitor

    • Karen Smith, health visitor

    • Karen Aitkin, health visitor

Zoey Pullar, Associate Nurse Director, Women, Children & Families Division, presented the awards to each member of staff at a ceremony in Baxter Park Pavilion in Dundee last week. She said, “It was an absolute privilege to spend the afternoon celebrating the long service and dedication of members of the health visiting and family nurse partnership teams. We are so lucky to have the benefit of their knowledge and experience in supporting the families of Tayside and positively influencing the early years, which we all know are so vital for outcomes in later life.”

Nicky Connor, Chief Executive of NHS Tayside, said, “I would like to say a huge congratulations to everyone who received these awards for more than 21 years of service in the community. Your commitment and compassion to children and families across Tayside have made a lasting impact on the lives of those you serve.

“As a trustee of the Queen’s Nursing Institute Scotland, I am especially proud to celebrate your achievements and the vital role you play in shaping the future of nursing in Scotland.”
