Type 2 Diabetes Prevention Programme

Service overview

Diabetes Prevention Programmes (DPP) for people with prediabetes or a history of gestational diabetes are delivered by Second Nature, who specialise in remote weight management interventions. This service is commissioned by NHS Tayside’s Public Health Directorate as part of our broader effort to prevent and intervene early in Type 2 diabetes.

Who can enrol?

People are eligible to join the programme if they:

  • Have prediabetes (HbA1c 42-47 mmol/mol) or a past history of gestational diabetes
  • Are aged 18-70 years old
  • Are motivated to lose weight, prevent Type 2 diabetes and can use a Smartphone app for the programme.

Who is NOT suitable for the DPP?

This programme may not be suitable for people with:

  • A severe and untreated mental health condition that would prevent successful engagement with the programme
  • Drug and/or alcohol dependence that would prevent successful engagement with the programme
  • Severe, unsupported learning disabilities or learning difficulties that would likely impair ability to engage successfully with the programme
  • A current eating disorder
  • Are pregnant or planning pregnancy in the near future

How to enrol

People who have prediabetes or a past history of gestational diabetes can learn more and self-refer directly to the Second Nature DPP via our Type2Tayside website.

Please note, people newly diagnosed with prediabetes will receive a letter from the Directorate of Public Health offering them the opportunity to self-refer to the Second Nature DPP.
