Celebrating Creative Writing

Members of the Angus Headway group celebrated the publication of their creative writing work at an event in Arbroath today (Wednesday).

Dundee and Angus Headway Tayside Groups are peer support groups for people with acquired brain injuries, including stroke. Earlier this year members participated in the creative writing programme which was delivered as part of Tayside Healthcare Arts Trust’s ST/ART project.

Members of the Angus group today (Wednesday) received the completed booklet of both groups’ work and examples of the selected work were read out by participants.

Dundee poet Mark Thomson led both groups through a programme of writing and critical discussion.

Mark said, “It’s great to see the work now presented as a publication. The participant’s contributions deserved to be put into print and the combined achievement of both groups becomes a great example of what Headway is capable of doing.”

THAT Projects Coordinator Chris Kelly said, “It is marvellous to bring this booklet of the groups’ work back to them and see their reaction to having their writing in print.

“Having Mark here as well and reading work aloud reinforces their achievement and properly marks the occasion.”

The work with the Headway Groups has been funded through NHS Tayside and is part of Tayside Healthcare Arts Trust’s (THAT) larger engagement with people with stroke and other long term conditions.

THAT projects and programmes aim to enhance quality of life, to promote social inclusion, to empower the individual and make a significant contribution to their health and wellbeing.
