IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

NHS Tayside celebrating Older People’s Day

NHS Tayside is inviting members of the public to celebrate UK Older People’s Day.

People are being invited to recognise what is good about being older or caring for an older person to mark the annual event on Thursday, 1 October.

An information stand will be held in the main concourse of Ninewells Hospital tomorrow (Thursday) from 1pm until 4pm to provide information on a range of topics, including Power of Attorney, physical activity and supporting discharge from hospital.

NHS Tayside associate director, improvement Tracey Williams said, “Older People’s Day celebrates later life and the huge contribution older people make to their communities. Everyone has a parent or grandparent, colleague or friend who they look to for advice and to learn from and this year Older People’s Day is all about bringing older and younger people together to create better understanding and respect.

“On the day we are also pleased to welcome Dundee College Beauty Therapy students who will be pampering some of our older patients in ward 5 and 6. We will also be providing learning sessions for staff members about aspects of caring and respect for frail older people.”
