NHS Tayside wins Keep Scotland Beautiful awards

NHS Tayside is the first health board in the country to achieve Keep Scotland Beautiful’s National Awards for Environmental Excellence. Two silver awards have been given for high standards of grounds maintenance at Ninewells and Perth Royal Infirmary.

Malcolm Ross, Grounds Maintenance Manager with NHS Tayside, said, “I am very proud of the grounds staff for achieving these National Awards for Environment Excellence, especially since we are the first health board in Scotland to achieve this standard.

“The job of maintaining NHS Tayside’s many outside spaces usually goes unnoticed, but the team has always produced work to a very high standard.

“To achieve the award, we kept a record of our activities, made the way we work even more efficient and effective by introducing new tools and equipment, whilst also meeting funding challenges.

“I’m delighted that NHS Tayside is leading the way and our next goal is to achieve the gold award.”

Colin Hegarty, Local Environmental Quality Coordinator with Keep Scotland Beautiful, said, “We are working closely with businesses and organisations all across Scotland to help them take direct action to address environmental issues.

“The National Award for Environmental Excellence provides an opportunity to audit and reward their efforts and we are delighted to present two silver awards to an NHS board – the first to receive the accolade in Scotland.

“NHS Tayside has shown a dedicated commitment to improving environmental performance at two sites, Perth Royal Infirmary and Ninewells Hospital. Both sites demonstrated good practice, excelling in the high standards of grounds maintenance and implementation of policies and procedures.  It is important that organisations accept their environmental responsibilities and that we recognise and celebrate their efforts.

“We look forward to supporting NHS Tayside as it works towards a gold award for the benefit of all its employees, patients and visitors.”
