Making your mark! Final celebration display of artwork

Artwork created by young adults living with arthritis or musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions goes on display today (Monday, 21 November) in Dundee.

A final display of printed artwork created by young people with arthritis or joint pain is on display today Monday, 21 November from 6.30pm – 8.30pm in WASPS Studios, Meadow Mill, Dundee.

This celebratory display is part of a new ‘Take THAT’ project which aims to combine the skills and knowledge base of Tayside Healthcare Arts Trust’s (THAT) and Arthritis Care Scotland (ACS) to produce a Dundee-focused service for young adults between the ages of 18-25 years.

THAT’s Creative Programme Model has been led by THAT Artist Jude Gove, and Volunteer Artist John Burness supported by ACS support worker, Jay O’Reilly.

Over the eight week programme, the group was introduced to a variety of printing styles and techniques which they used to developed their own prints. Artist Jude Gove said “The group has shown a real talent for print-making, some of their work is really stunning and they have been really enjoyable to work with!”

Karine Neill, Development Officer with THAT commented, “As a new project, this partnership with ACS is providing a creative opportunity that can encourage and build a strong peer support group. We hope that the positive experiences of the group can provide further opportunities for more co-production approaches in the future.”

A further taster workshop is being offered in ceramics and is open to anyone who may be interested in joining the group. The taster will offer an additional creative opportunity for bringing the group together to discuss their thoughts for future meetings or support needed. The workshop will be held on Monday, 28 November from 6.30- 8.30pm in the WASPS Studios at Meadow Mill, Dundee and participants need no previous art experience to attend.

Funding has been received for this project from Dundee Reshaping Care Small Grant Fund and THAT and ACS are delighted to be working in partnership to deliver this new project approach for young people living with arthritis in Dundee.
