Aroma Cafe in Ninewells Hospital has been awarded the healthyliving award plus for ensuring that at least 70% of the food on offer is a healthy option.

The award was collected last week at a ceremony at the Trades Hall in Glasgow by Bruce Shepherd, Retail Business Manager with NHS Tayside.

Aroma was opened in the Ian Low Centre at Ninewells Hospital in November 2015 by NHS Tayside and the University of Dundee.

Bruce said, “The national award is for the food service sector in Scotland and the NHS plays a huge role in promoting healthy eating to staff, patients and visitors.

“It is fantastic for NHS Tayside to be recognised for this and it shows real commitment from my team every day to ensure that we are offering healthier choices for our customers.”

Speaking at the event, Scottish Government Minister of Public Health and Sport Aileen Campbell said, “The healthyliving award continues to make a real difference to the food that’s served to people across Scotland.

“Winning the fight against type 2 diabetes and other diet-related conditions starts in our shops, cafes and restaurants. Every healthy meal that businesses serve is a step towards a healthier Scotland and I thank these caterers for their commitment to the award.”
