Care Home Collaborative Forum

In Tayside to support the approx 100 adult care homes the Tayside Enhanced Professional Clinical and Care Strategic Oversight of Care Homes Group was formed which in turn was supported by The Care Home Clinical and Care Professional Operational Group.

Members of the Care Home Clinical and Care Professional Operational Group were responsible and accountable for:

  • The provision of clinical and care professional leadership and support to Care Homes across Tayside.
  • Working collaboratively to understand issues arising in Care Homes agree solution and support local H&SCP’s Care Home Oversight Huddle to support Care Homes to implement improvements.
  • Ensuring Tayside Care Homes remain as safe and free from infection as possible and are able to sustain services during the times of outbreak.
  • Offering collective leadership, experience and resources, facilitate Care Homes to access the best possible expert advice, the implementation of infection prevention and control and responsive clinical and care support when needed.
  • Leading and coordinating improvement projects

As we emerged from the pandemic The Scottish Government along with a range of stakeholders from across the health and social care sector took stock of the considerable learning and excellent partnership working that had happened. Based on the findings of the review a number of recommendations were made. A move from oversight to collaboration or a partnership approach was part of the recommendations with the Care Home Clinical and Care Professional Operational Group being renamed Tayside Care Home Collaborative Forum.

An Advice note was issued by the Scottish Government in December 2022 outlining the new arrangements for Enhanced Collaborative Clinical and Care Support for Care Homes which supports a partnership approach and recognises the experience of care home staff and the provision of support to care homes in the context of ensuring a homely environment in which people live and work. The note provides guiding principles and a framework which recommends that health and social care professionals continue to work together to identify ways to improve the health and wellbeing of people living in care homes as described in My Health, My Care, My Home – healthcare framework for adults living in care homes published by the Scottish Government in June 2022 and the Health and Social Care Standards in Scotland.

Care Homes remain in the remit of the Executive Nurse Directors were assurance of clinical standards and quality of care in the context of Excellence in Care is still sought but with an emphasis on the supporting role and working in collaboration.
