Phlebotomy

  • Children and young people under the age of 16 requiring phlebotomy in a paediatric setting should be referred to the Paediatric Procedures Team. The PPT runs clinics in Dundee (Ninewells Hospital) and Perth (Perth Royal Infirmary). The Angus PPT hubs are expected to be re-instated in the next couple of months, updates to follow. Angus children and young people will be appointed to the Dundee PPT for now.
  • In addition to phlebotomy the procedure hubs offer urine collection, BP, weights, heights and ECGs.
  • Please refer via SCI-Gateway specifying required time scale for appointments and any additional relevant information for example if sample is to be early morning (fasting), other investigations required. Investigations must be requested on ICE prior to referral for appointments to be made.
  • Referrals for investigations will not be screened clinically and will be directed to the appointments office therefore if clinical advice required a separate referral should be made.
  • Please note wait time for routine bloods is up to 8 weeks. Please mark referral as ‘urgent’ if indicated.
