Protecting Children and Young People in Tayside

NHS Tayside recognises that all children and young people have a right to be protected and that all adults have a responsibility to protect them from harm.

We are committed to continually improving our child protection arrangements, ensuring that systems and services are in place to promote and protect the wellbeing of children and young people in Tayside. 

Child protection is a top priority for NHS Tayside in order to Get it Right for Every Child (GIRFEC) and young person.  We work collaboratively with our key partners, to ensure children and young people in Tayside are protected, who are:

  • Angus Council
  • Dundee City Council
  • Perth & Kinross Council
  • The Scottish Children's Reporter Administration
  • Police Scotland

NHS Tayside has a Child Protection Service comprising of:
  • A Lead Paediatrician
  • Lead Paediatricians in each of our 3 locality areas (Angus, Dundee and Perth & Kinross)
  • An Associate Nurse Director Public Protection
  • A Senior Nurse
  • An Improvement and Performance Manager
  • A Learning and Development Coordinator
  • Nurse Advisors/Advisors - Child Protection
  • Administrative staff

Their role is to ensure that all staff within NHS Tayside have access to sound advice, appropriate training and supervision and feel confident and competent in their role to protect and promote the wellbeing of children and young people.

 

What to do if you have concerns about a child

As a member of the public, if you are worried about potential child abuse or neglect, you can speak to a Health Visitor, Nursery Staff, Teacher, Family Doctor, Social Worker, Police Officer or the Children's Reporter. 

If you think a child is at immediate risk of harm, contact Police Scotland on 999.
