Perinatal and Infant Mental Health Services

More than 1 in 10 women will be affected by a mental illness during pregnancy or the first year after the birth of their baby. It is nothing to be ashamed of and it not a reflection of you as a parent. It is important to ask for help so the support can be put in place for you.

Perinatal mental health covers pregnancy and the first year after birth. It includes Antenatal Depression, Postnatal Depression, Anxiety, Postpartum Psychosis, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Birth Trauma. Fathers can also experience depression, anxiety and PTSD in relation to becoming a parent. Not all perinatal mental illnesses will require the intervention of the Perinatal Mental Health Team. A referral to this service can be made through your health care professionals where deemed appropriate.
