Home visits
We offer a home visiting service for individuals who cannot, as a result of their condition, access physiotherapy in an outpatient clinic.

How do I go about organising a home visit?
If you feel you would benefit from a home visit, please talk to your GP. You can also refer yourself for a home visit, using the self-referral forms below. Home visits are generally only available to individuals who cannot, as a result of their condition, attend an outpatient appointment.
What happens if I need to cancel a home visit?
Please always contact the Department if you need to cancel a home visit. This allows us to offer the home visit slot to another patient. It helps if you give us as much advance warning as possible.
What will happen during the first home visit?
Your physiotherapist will first assess you. For example, your physiotherapist might ask you about your mobility. He or she may check your balance, your muscle strength or your fitness level. He or she will also ask you about your goals for treatment. If your issue relates to your leg, hip, knee or ankle, please make sure to wear loose-fitting trousers.
Once the assessment is complete, your physiotherapist will explain the results to you and work with you to establish a treatment plan. This will often include a number of exercises for you to do at home. You can find a sample exercise programme here. Your physiotherapist will explain which of the exercises in this sample programme are safe and useful for you to do.
