Falls Service
Falls can have a significant impact on your confidence, mobility and independence.
The Dundee Falls Service supports people who have experienced falls or who are at increased risk of falling.
Our aim is to help you understand why you may be falling, identify factors that can be changed and support you to remain as safe and independent as possible.
How Can The Falls Service Help?
Your assessment will be tailored to your individual needs.
This may include looking at:
- Your history of falls.
- Your mobility and walking.
- Balance.
- Muscle strength.
- Use of walking aids.
- Confidence and fear of falling.
- Your home environment.
- Footwear.
- Other factors that may affect your risk of falling.
Where appropriate, we may work with other health and social care professionals to address factors that could be contributing to your falls.
Falls Rehabilitation
Physiotherapy can help you improve strength, balance, mobility and confidence following falls.
Your physiotherapist may provide an individual exercise programme and advice about how to safely increase your activity.
We will work with you to identify goals that are meaningful to you and help you maintain your independence.
Falls Exercise Classes
The Falls Service also provides group exercise opportunities designed to improve strength, balance and confidence. You may be referred into this class via another health care provider you have met, such as your GP, Nurse or Physiotherapist.
Classes take place at the Royal Victoria Outpatient Centre (Formerly the Day Hospital) and at The Mackinnon Centre in Brought Ferry.
Please speak with your healthcare provider if you feel these would be of benefit to you.
What Can I Do To Prevent Falls
There are a number of things you can do to reduce your risk of falling, including keeping active, improving your strength and balance, checking your eyesight and hearing, wearing appropriate footwear and reducing hazards within your home.
