Active for Life
Active for Life is a referral-based programme designed to help people build healthier, more active lifestyles. They focus on creating lasting habits that boost overall health and wellbeing.
What Does The Programme Offer
Active for Life takes an individual approach to physical activity. Our experienced Fitness Instructors will work with you to understand your needs, abilities and goals and help you develop a physical activity plan that is right for you.
The programme can include a range of activities depending on your individual needs and interests, including:
- Gym-based exercise.
- Circuit-based activities.
- Swimming.
- Walking groups.
- Other forms of physical activity.
The aim is to help you become more physically active, improve your health and wellbeing, and develop confidence in being active regularly.
Who Is The Programme For?
Active for Life is for people who are not currently achieving the recommended levels of physical activity for health and who would benefit from additional support to become more active.
The programme can support people living with a range of health conditions, including:
- Arthritis.
- Asthma.
- Cancer.
- Cardiac conditions.
- Chronic fatigue syndrome / myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME).
- Cystic fibrosis.
- COPD.
- Depression.
- Diabetes (type 1).
- Diabetes (type 2).
- Falls.
- Fibromyalgia.
- Hypertension.
- Multiple sclerosis.
- Obesity.
- Osteoporosis.
- Parkinson's disease.
- Peripheral vascular disease.
- Stroke.
If you have a health condition that is not listed above but would like support to become more physically active, speak to your healthcare professional about whether Active for Life may be suitable for you.
How Do I Get Involved?
Due to the specialist nature of the programme, Active for Life requires a referral from a healthcare professional.
If you think the programme could be suitable for you, speak to your GP, Practice Nurse, Nurse Specialist or Physiotherapist about whether a referral would be appropriate.
Once referred, the Active for Life team can discuss your individual needs and help you identify physical activities that are suitable for you.
