The NHS KSF is the part of Agenda for Change (AfC) that supports career development.  It describes the knowledge and skills that NHS staff need to use in their work in order to deliver quality services. The purpose of the KSF is to facilitate the development of services, support effective learning and development, and promote equality and diversity for all staff.

Preparing for your personal development review / plan

Your annual personal development plan & review meeting (PDP/R) is simply about time for a quality conversation between you and your reviewer.  It is your chance to talk about what matters to you in your job, be clear about what is expected of you, and to have feedback on what has gone well and what might have been better.

Understanding KSF dimensions

An NHS KSF post outline sets out the NHS KSF dimensions and levels that apply to a particular post in the NHS. The NHS KSF is made up of 30 dimensions, 6 of which are core dimensions that apply to all posts - details are contained within the KSF handbook.

The 6 core dimensions applicable to all posts:
  • C1 - Communication
  • C2 - Personal & People Development
  • C3 - Health, Safety & Security
  • C4 - Service Improvement
  • C5 - Quality
  • C6 - Equality & Diversity

- as well as the dimension G6 - People Management, have recently been re-worded to support you in your PDP/R discussions.
