ALISS (A Local Information System for Scotland)

Who We Are:

The ALISS (A Local Information System for Scotland) programme is a national digital programme enabiling people and professionals across Scotland to find and share information on health and wellbeing resources, services, and support in local communities and online. ALISS can help you find information about resources that:
• Can help people manage their long term conditions
• Enable social and community connection
• Support creative, cultural or physical activity
• Link to a range of practical, legal, and financial support
• Involve digital technology that can support health and social care
ALISS is funded by the Scottish government and delivered by the Health and Social Care Alliance Scotland (the ALLIANCE). The programme is co-produced with people and professionals in Scotland’s and aims to ensure that everyone in Scotland has the right information, at the right time, about resources that are available to help them live well and stay connected to their community.

Who to Refer:

ALISS offers information and links to numerous Tayside based groups that offer support around:

• Health conditions
• Activities, hobbies, and groups
• Food,nutrition, and goods
• Financial advice
• Housing and homelessness
• Sexual health
• Rights and representation
• Education and employability
• Children and families
• Transport and mobility

Who Not to Refer:

ALISS does not offer links to any secondary, tertiary or acute care settings. It is a database of local and online health and wellbeing resources delivered by the third sector, charity organisations, and community groups.

How to Refer:

Patients can be referred via ALISS by navigating to the website and searching by ‘Where’ (location) or ‘What’ (keyword) or using the picture carousel at the bottom of the page to search for support thematically. We would recommend making use of the search bar and entering the local area or postcode of the patient. This way, linking a patient with an appropriate local group becomes much easier.

To narrow the search to the most appropriate service for the patient, use the sort and filter options at the left side of the page. Results can be filtered by:
  • Distance from the patient (distance is measured in a straight line)
  • Coverage – whether a service operates locally or nationally
  • Categories (e.g. type of activity, condition, or support)
  • Accessibility – certain accessibility features that are required for a patient to be able to access a service (e.g. if there is an accessible toilet, lift access, car park, etc.)
  • Who – the intended audience (e.g. older adults, care experienced people, disabled people, etc.)

The results list will show the name of the service, which organisations delivers the service, a brief description of the service offered, and the contact details. To find out more about the service, simply click on the service name.

Please note that ALISS is accessible to everyone across Scotland, including patients and carers. As such, patients do have the option to explore the groups available online, and can self-refer.
