Who to Refer 

  • For suspected first seizure please see separate First Seizure RefGuide page
  • Please refer patients with an established diagnosis of epilepsy and:
    • Lifestyle issues requiring specialist advice.
    • Deterioration of epilepsy.
    • Diagnostic uncertainty, including change in seizure presentation
    • Intolerable side effects related to anti-epileptic medication
    • Withdrawal of medication is being considered
    • Epilepsy referral flowchart

How to Refer

  • For those currently under specialist review
    • Please contact the epilepsy nurse specialist in the first instance directly
    • Patients can contact the nurse specialist independently for seizure related issues only. For other, non-seizure related matters, patients should be seen in Primary Care with support offered by the hospital service as necessary.
  • For those who are not under regular specialist review, please refer via Sci Gateway/Neurology.
