New Abnormal Gait

  • A new abnormal gait may be due to a neuromuscular problem or a skeletal problem.
  • Children’s Physiotherapy may help to assess.
  • For any child with a gait abnormality, the hips should be examined and a pelvic x-ray should be arranged prior to referral.
  • Where Slipped Upper Femoral Epiphysis is suspected, emergency referral to Orthopaedics on call is required. Late presenting DDH should be urgently referred to our Children’s Orthopaedic Service.
