Urgent Suspected Cancer Referrals

Who to Refer

Scottish Cancer Referral Guidelines? are used for vetting in Tayside.

How to Refer

  • Further details of referral pathways can be found in each specialty area. In general, the referral should be via SCI gateway with referral graded as “Urgent Suspicion of Cancer”.
  • If you are unsure about whether this is the correct referral route, please consider using the SCI advice option for further information.
  • It is good practice to ensure the patient, unless it would cause unwarranted distress, is aware of why they are being referred on this pathway. This allows an open and honest discussion about what this patient's wishes to happen, encourages them to attend appointments and facilitates further discussions in secondary care.
  • Please consider a patient's general fitness and performance scale and Realistic Medicine principles prior to a referral.
  • Capacity maybe an issue with some of our older patients. Please identify if they have dementia, if they have a POA, Guardianship or AWI.
