Fair Work Opportunities

Fair Work Oppos
Fair work means secure employment with fair pay and conditions, where workers are heard and represented, treated with respect and have opportunities to progress.

It is vital in tackling poverty. It balances the rights of employers and workers and is good for society and the economy.
By widening access to NHS jobs for those furthest from the labour market, we as an organisation can increase incomes for families, reduce child poverty, and support career pathways in NHS roles for people who would never have considered the NHS as a source of work before.

Fair work and reducing workplace inequalities are central to transforming Scotland’s economy, ensuring that everyone is able to contribute. The Scottish Government’s vision is for Scotland to become a leading fair work nation.

Good practice example
NHS Tayside volunteers aged 16-25 can sign up for the Saltire Award which records their hours and learning gained through volunteering placement and allows them to claim certificates for key milestones. The scheme helps young people demonstrate their achievements when applying for employment, further education or training.

Good practice example
During Apprenticeship Week, Development Lead (Apprenticeships/Careers) Judith Golden said, “The week shines a spotlight on the value apprenticeships bring to the organisation and the opportunities they provide for young people to develop their careers. Currently there are apprenticeships in the three health and social partnerships, public health, support services, pharmacy and medical physics”.
